Due to the financial trouble, could someone please give me an update on which bank is best on the Sunshine Coast?

Not sure that the Sunshine Coast as a location will necessarily make a difference to the answer. Sucorp Metway and Bank of Queensland are local banks if that helps, but as a result are also small. Suncorp is looking at selling off its banking arm (it is essentially a large insurance company with a bank attached these days).

Given that the Federal Goverment has guaranteed all retail bank deposits (up to $1M I think) then there is currently effectively no risk between choosing one bank over another.

bank of qld has this bank manager owns bank configuration which is good when you need to sort anything out - like the old days where your bank manager knows you. I am just about to move my business account there although I am not that unhappy with st george, they are about to merger with westpac.

I have my mortgage with commonwealth. Banks are all pretty stable I believe - there was talk about Macquarie being the most vulnerable but as the other poster said, the government is guaranteeing personal funds.
