Sunshine Coast?

Can anyone on the Sunshine Coast recommend an area which ideally has decent schools, employment possibilities for an accountant, a sense of community and where one could buy something with four beds for up to $600,000? We relocated to Sydney and are finding the housing prices tough going. Likewise the job market is not as easy as we had hoped.

Similarly(is that a word  ) is there anywhere on the Sunshine Coast people can recommend that is not too far from decent schools...and all of the above but you can get a cheapish 2 bed house. I dont have that much money!!
Was looking at Colundra(spelt wrong i think)- anyone there or been there can tell me how it is ??
Sorry to hijack your thread but my question is so similar didnt seem much point in starting another :)

I live north side Brisbane, so can't help you exactly. Though Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Buderim and Marochy are all very popular. You can get an idea of house prices here - Real Estate

$600,000 would buy a fairly grand place, four bed average is probably closer to mid 400,000s, thats new upmarket, older stuff much cheaper.

In that price range you could do Caloundra, Kawana, Alexandra Headland, all of which are close to beach although Kawana beach is incredibly dangerous rip wise, Up the other end Noosa Tewantin Perigian Coolum, but work up here is scarce.

Several recent happy arrivals on Coast have all chosen Buderim, its a village but 5 minute drive to safe surf beaches, most of the schools with the top name are there. One of those arrivals is a guy calling himself sydney the dog, search on his posts for more info. I think a lot of these suburbs have been covered try searching on them too.

Maroochydore itself has mainly old housing, Mooloolabas mainly hol units, and Nambour  is the only one to totally avoid.

Our accountant is booked out 3 months in advance and had to fly in his brother from Adelaide to catch up, but thats all I know on that front.

Checking the area out would be easy , flights from sydney are only around $60.

I live in Mooloolaba, its nice but very touristy and a bit snobby in places. Schools are good, both primary and high, but property prices are a bit on high side. Caloundra and Maroochydore are both a bit cheaper (housing price wise) and seem to have more in the way of work prospects.

Thanks for this and on the strength of it I have booked a flight today! I will be there Mon 14 March until Wed 16th March and will stand a few drinks to anyone who has some time to share their local knowledge with me.

If you read the thread about Buderim, that shouldgive you a good idea. Certainly sold me on this area and have since researched on the internet. The place sounds absolutely great with good schools, close to coast and houses look very smart, and your price range would buy you something fantastic!

Just back from Buderim and couldnt fault it
Beach at Alexandra heads great good shopping at Sunshine Plaza
More estate agents than an ything else in the village so finding a house shouldnt be too difficult
plenty going on with a real community feel
good luck Mary

Hi all
We (me, wife and child) are currently living in Kuluin which is next to buderim. Buderim is a nice spot (very hilly - lot of pole homes) but it might not be for everyone. House prices vary so much within a small area its hard to say you will get what your looking for because it might not be there.
We are looking to move away from the concrete jungle, a bit more inland (that means 15mins drive). We have only been here just over 2 months but are enjoying it, but the amount of people is a bit to much for us!!!

Would be glad to answer any questions on the area, will answer to the best of my knowledge.

Re: Sunshine Coast?

We chose Caloundra as it is a bit quieter than the Maroochydore end. There is little traffic here and Maroochy can get a bit too busy for me!

House prices are pretty similar anything from $350 000 upwards for a 4 bed. Anything with a sea view or near the beach could be double/ triple this!

Suburbs to search are:
Dicky beach, Moffat beach, Golden beach, Kings Beach, Currimundi, Aroona, Little Mountain, Wurtulla, Bokarina, Buddina, Kawana, Battery Hill. Best place to look is www.realestate.com.au it is pretty current and gives you an idea of prices.

Buderim does vary a lot and it is further from the sea than this end, but still relatively close. Houses are available from $350 000 approx upwards depending on the area. There are some houses with views which are $800 000 + . Sailfish Drive seems to be popular at the moment it is a new Australand Estate and is pretty reasonable price wise.

Be prepared to struggle and fight to find a 4 bed rental they are in huge demand and due to the price inflations not many investors are renting out. Most cost from $320 upwards.

There are any number of great spots on the coast and the Hinterland.

I am in the Noosa area, Cooroy Lake MacDonald with an amazing house for sale, great price, great lifestyle. The Hinterland is more rural and in the Noosa Shire will always remain open and green lower density living than other areas. The near future planning is for a push of development inland away from the coast so growth is immanent and work goes hand in hand with this.

As far as education goes, the local school at Cooroy has one a number of awards recently, there is an excellent Lutheran School at Noosa and I believe Nambour has a couple of highly regarded colleges.

As far as employment goes, it has not been good but the recent growth and the development of the new business centre is going to change much in the service fields anyway. Businesses are growing quickly here and Accountants are in demand, that is something that I do know.
