Anyone else got optus broadband?
Just spent an hour trying to figure out why my broadband connection had died. Tried rebooting everything, resetting the modem to factory settings, different network cards in different computers, resetting passwords, everything.
Eventually had to admit defeat and rang the helpline, and got a recorded message
"We are having a nationwide problem with our broadband network at the moment..."
Arrrgggggghhhhhh

It better not go down completely - as I'm totally reliant on it..

I'm starting to realise how reliant I am on it too. When I realised it was stuffed, I thought, hmmm, I'll go mow the grass then... hang on it might rain, I'll just check the weather on the inter.... oh

I work at home so it's essential for keeping touch. But even when I finish working for the day, I'm still here checking the news, researching the next holiday, reading the forums etc.
What do I need a 4 b/r house for? - I basically spend all my waking hours in a space about 1 metre-square.....

I have Optus Broadband......if I cant get it to connect the first thing I do is to call their helpline.....they r very prompt at updating any problems......I have also signed up for their casual use dial up......this is charged at $2.95 an hour, and is always there to use in emergencies should the BB go down

Re: Stupid Optus
I always sing the praise of Dodo dialup - last night, no connection from 7pm.....9pm I rang them and poiltely asked (after holding for 13 minutes) what was happening....the lovely man who answered said "we got problems with connections, just keep dialling".....when asked if he would pay the phone bill for the repeated redials he said "we got problems with connections, just keep dialling"........so I said I might go out and buy a pigging disc and reconnect to Optus. Guess what, he said "we got problems with connections, just keep dialling".
Thank god normal service was resumed by 11pm, I was climbing the walls!!

I've just got broad ban with I primums. Its $70 for the month, it includes all local calls and line rental.
Theres a down load cap though, but we only use e mail etc on the home pc so i don't think it will bother us too much. Wasn't gonna go with them as we had a few hiccups at the start, so i am waiting to be happy

So before I ever ring a helpdesk, I always do everything I would have put in the script i.e. yes i've rebooted, yes, i've tried changing password, yes, I've tried using a different computer, yes I've reset it to factory seting, yes I've rebuilt it etc etc. Especially because alot of helplines these days are premium numbers, AND they keep you on hold for 30 minutes (I'm not saying Optus is, I don't know).
Worst hell desk I ever rang was Lexmark, the girl on the other end got really stroppy when I kept telling her I had already done what she suggested. She end up shouting "WELL, DO IT AGAIN OR WE WILL BE HERE ALL DAY".
So I did it again, and it didn't work I think they ended up sending me a CD with new drivers for the all-in-one printer thingy I was having a problem with.
Hate ringing help desks

I'm with Swiftel - not a problem - yet. They were great a year or so ago - compeition has caught up with them since I joined. Contemplated bundling but wasn't sure if the savings would amount to much so decided on choice.

It was down again today from about 11am until 3pm. Same recorded message on the helpline ' The broadband network is experiencing nationwide problems, now go away'. (ok, the last bit isn't true)

By far the worst callcentre on earth is Capital One. Made the mistake of keeping a bit of balance still to pay on the card when moving over here. Despite ringing to give them our new oz address, we forgot that we'd be re-routed to India. We were paying god knows what at the time for our international calls and the Indian lady on the other end couldn't speak English and couldn't grasp the fact that she couldn't get our new 5 digit postcode into the existing space for a 7 digit code!
Useless! Suffice to say that we didn't get our next statement and were charged for late payment! Got it back when we rang up and complained.
