Hi Darren, welcome to the forum.

My mate went to Perth on a student visa and it took 8 weeks to sort out her visa and have the medicals.

I don't know if that is the norm, but I know you have to show evidence of being able to support yourself, the offer of the course you are taking and I think the fees for a term at least to be paid up front (chk that out).

Then you need the medical and police clearance.

I don't think its a long process though.

Good luck

Samantha

pheww, thanks samantha, thats a releif.i have been looking at skilled work visas and they take over a year!. my gf wants to come over to but i think she is going to have to maybe go for a years working visa, and then try to extend once she is over. she is skilled but she wont be able to wait a year for a visa under the normal route.

Darryn just a note,
We are applying via skilled visas, if you have enough points it has only taken us five months to get the visa. The hold up for us as been selling the house.

Are you planning to apply for permanent residence in Australia after you finish, or do you intend to return to the UK?

In that case make sure your flying qualification will be accepted back in the UK.
