Default Student visa and pets

We are thinking of applying for a student visa and need to know if we can take our 2 cats with us if we go down this route, does anyone know if this is possible with this type of visa?

What you take with you has nothing to do with the kind of visa you have. In other words, the moggies can come with you. Just be aware that it costs quite a bit of money to ship pets over. With two cats, you're probably looking at £2,000.

Thanks for that Gina, the cats will be happy knowing they won't get left behind! Good luck with your app.

Make sure you intend to stay before bringing the moggies, its not just the cost but if you want to return to the uk you will need to put them through 6 months quarentine. If you are going to bring them I can say the Sydney quarentine center were fabulous and really look after the animals well.

Just for info ... Australia is part of the Pet Travel Scheme so if you are wanting to return without your pets doing 6 months if you get them chipped, rabies vaccinated & tested in accordance with DEFRA regulations they will have early release or not have to do any at all.

Good idea in theory, but the sydney quarentine center lost all the pet passports and paper work that took us a year of chipping, vacinations, blood tests to get! So not sure what to do now, they deny having them, but I saw them strapped to the cage as they got on the plane. I wonder if you can get duplicates?

If it was a pet passport and not just the export health cert that you had then yes, get in touch with the vets you used in the UK and they should have a record of everything and should be able to send you duplicates.

Or ... I'm sure you can have them re-tested in oz to make sure rabies vaccs still active and check chip etc. Get in touch with defra 08459 33 55 77 they will advise you of the paperwork etc required to avoid the 6 months.

Good luck !!!
