Default Stopped by police because...

The great world we live in...

Right here's the story to keep it simple, a friend of mine arrive from Portugal on Holidays, so the other day i took the day off and we went sightseeing around london, one of our stops was Canary Warf, so we decided to take a picture which we did, and guess what??? We got stopped by the police, while they carried out/filled a Stop/search account form for taking a picture at Canary Warf, i have to admit that the police officers were nice not the arrogant type, obviously i was fumming because of the whole situation, i mean what that hell is this now of not being allowed to take pictures, wheres our freedom? I mean thats the purpose of going on holidays, to record that moment on a piece of paper, photo in this case.

Now obviously i was never in trouble with the police before, i was always a well behaved "boy" and still am, does anyone know if these stop/search forms will affect the my application when i decide to take things forward with the immigration process?

I still cant believe i got stopped because of a frikkin picture.

No comment on the rights and wrongs of what happened, but as far as your question goes - Stop and search forms are not recorded on the police national computer, and will not appear on your police check. Nor will you have to mention it on the visa application as it is merely a record that you were stopped, it is not a caution or a conviction.
Relax

Hello Pollyana, and thanks bordy

Nothing wrong happen, walking along the street, took the digital out... took a picture... turned away and there was a police car. Has far as i know it's not a crime to take a picture. Maybe im wrong considering what happened.

Thanks for you precious input, thats what i thought, but i was just seeking confirmation/re-assurance i guess, got my heart pumping this stop. Thank you once again

Cheers

They've nothing better to do because there's no murders, mugging, burglary, rape, drug peddling or other nasty activity going on in the UK! And how much did that cost the taxpayers? Did you not take a photo of the Police officers & send it in with your complaint???!!! er... AFTER you get perm. residency!

Should have asked the police officers to take a photo of you in front of Canary Wharf.....
Could have been worse - they could have dismantled the camera and found cash of drugs inside

I dunno, I'm a bit ambiguous about this, I've alot of police in my family (in Northern Ireland), and my attitude has always been: back the police up, they're doing this stuff for a reason, and putting their lives on the line.

Your case does sound a bit extreme, but I'd rather have 50000 pissed of Londoners/tourists than 1 more Canary Wharf bomb!

Its not the IRA or INLA or Real IRA or whatever we have to worry about now, but same evil intentions, just different aims

Cheers,
JTL

Have to agree actually. Whatever their reason, it was probably a good one
(though I know there are still bad apples in the Met as everywhere). Could be something as simple as - burglaries reported in the area, suspicious character seen that roughly fitted your description.
Part of the reason for the introuction of the stop and search form is that they have to be able to justify why they stopped you. If you do complain (to the Commissioner, New Scotland Yard) the officers involved would have had to document a good reason on their part of the stop and search form - they can't put it on your part, obviously! You may never be told that reason, but you can rest assured it would be investigated, and the officers have to satosfy their superiors that it was a genuine stop.

There was 2 of us, one who has never been in the Uk, and according to them they will stop everyone seen taking pictures, so is everyone a suspect now?

Pollyanna, are you online, because it says you are 'offline' and that happened with Grayling yesterday when he was online.

Not knowing the area/circumstances/brief for their patrol can't say. But - there may have been a security alert in Canary Wharf - its been a target before; they may have instructions to stop people taking photos of a specific building - maybe you weren't even photographing that building, it just looked like you were. Or - less sinister - people posing as tourists taking photos, offer to take pic of other tourists and run off with camera....... endless possibilities.
Other countries are worse - remember the plane spotters imprisoned in Greece? Put it down to experience, use it as a story to dine out on, and remember - sometimes those random stops prevent half a city from being blown sky high.

Yeah, I'm online - but I choose to be invisible (for several reasons - including leaving pc logged into expats while out shopping and then getting complaints for nit answering pms at once!).......

Back to the police thing - when I worked for them, my boyfriend at the time owned a white Escort van, tatty, needed a clean, etc. We got stopped 18 times in a week in central Brighton, for doing nothing except driving around. Finally we took to driving around with my ID on the dashboard by the tax disc, that got rid of a couple of foot plods.
Final straw was 3am, on way home knackered, and they wanted to look in the back. So I got the ID out, name dropped like mad and asked what on earth was the problem.
Turned out, we had been seen driving slowly through a posh area of Hove (looking for a friends house) in our tatty white van. Same week, houses in the area were being emptied of antiques - and the neighbours could only see the stuff was being taken away in a small white tatty van......

Hi,

I know, im not critising their jobs, they are there for a reason like it has been said before... And there is no problem/issue to report the officers because they were kind and gave their reasons for the stop and i havent done anything wrong. Anyway my issue here was if it would affect the application and you kindly replied to that already, i wont debate further this issue, otherwise the moderators will blocked if for turning into an off-topic.

Thanks for the response polly.
