Default Stopovers with kids

Flying out to Brisbane on Feb 12th and fancy a stopover for a couple of nights in Hong Kong, Singapore or Dubai. I have a 4yr old and a 2 yr old.

Any tips on where to go and where to avoid with young kids?

I'd say its much of a muchness.

HKG does give you the Disneyland option though which would probably be popular.

My option would be Singapore - Sentosa island is basicaly disney like and a great interesting place to visit. If you are flying with Singapore Air they do a deal called imaginativly the Singapore Stopover. We had two days in the Singapore Ritz for $25 including transfers between the hotel and airport. The zoo there is also supposed to be the best in the world

Unfortunately we are flying with Emirates via Dubai, we booked flights with a 2 night stopover just to relax before the flight to Sydney. But the hotels don't really float my boat and doesn't seem to be anything for children. And the budget is tight.

We have a 4 year old to entertain, a good pool in the hotel would be fine, loads of hotels, but nothing seems to grab me.

Any other advice helendownunder would be great

Thanks

I kind of agree with Helen but I do love Dubai. But to really enjoy you need to stay in one of the big hotels on jumeirah beach or the palm now. And they do cost $$$$ but they are fab.
Also time of year is an issue. Getting nice now but in northern hemisphere summer the heat is simply intolerable

Yes, I get the idea you need the $$$$$. We probably would have treated ourselves if the boiler hadn't decided to go kerputt last week.

We have some friends with kids who go there alot and they recommended jumeirah beach resort. Perhaps I can persuade the in-laws it could be our farewell early christmas gift, mmmm, they might go for it. They are coming round tomorrow for our early Christmas Day, may try it as a joke!!!

I'll keep looking
Cheers

Agree with Singapore/Sentosa Island! We stopped there for 5 days on the way to Bali on our honeymoon and would love to take our girls there when we come back to Oz! It's amazing!

I loved Hong Kong and thought Singapore and Sentosa was boring as hell, however I think that Singapore might be a better option with children.

When did HK get a Disneyland? I hope it was after November 2004 because I don't remember it when I went.

Sentosa is tacky but good for kids if you can't get to a real beach (they're man-made on Sentosa). Just remember it's in one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world and the sea is pretty murky.

A lot has been happening there lately, with the new casino, more hotels, and Universal Studios opening. Don't bother with Underwater World, it's crap and it smells

Hi carmella
We stayed at premier inn at airport..£200 for 3 nights (decided ti save spends til we got here). Pool was best bit fantastic views... Hotel was ok all new clean and tidy, ate in restaurant and had breakfasts- child friendly. There wereno grounds but you can get shuttle bus to airport and catch metro. A goodinteractive kids place at creekside park. As long as it is not a monday get a taxi to jumiera beach park- you pay to get in but has facilities. We went on a monday- ladies only day!!!
Kids enjoyed running around shopping centres but found it hot ..
It broke the journey up and jetlag not been too bad.
Good luck

We're doing a stopover in Bangkok with a 2 year old (almost a week) on our way to Oz soon. Any tips on Bangkok with kiddies? Places to stay? Areas not too far away to get away from the hustle and bustle?

We stayed at two sets of apartments in Bangkok recently, the first were two bedroom serviced apartments recommended by a couple of lots of friends in Dubai, Somerset Lake Point. The apartments were pretty basic but ok, the second ones were Fraser Suites, Sukhimvit. They were two bedroom and really spacious and nice, they were more expensive than Fraser but my husband just asked them to drop the price and they did. It was within a 10 minute walk (we had a car so drove everywhere) to a really happening spot, but most places in Bangkok are. The pool area at Fraser beat Somerset but the breakfasts at Somerset were better. Both had washing machines and wireless internet, though Somerset's internet wasn't that great and were fully serviced.
