Default Stopovers

We are a family of 2 Adults, 4 Kids
We are emmigrating to Adelaide late August, early September this year.
We intend to stopover somewhere for 2 to 3 weeks on the way.
Singapore is out. Although I loved the place, I spent a Year working there, so know the Island like the back of my hand already.
We have already done the California, Disneyland parks and would not fancy another trip.
Has anybody got any suggestions on stopover countries they have either visited or intend to visit.

Cheers.

We just spent 3 weeks in Phuket as a stopover. Short cheap hop from your route thru Bangkok or Singapore.

Excellent reliable weather for most of the year, cheap hotels (we paid THB1700 (for 4, ie 2 + 2 kids) a night in a good new hotel incl breakfast and taxes), cheap delish food (count on a veritable seafood feast for THB500).

GBP1 = THB70 approx.

OK, just a suggestion but unless you are set on a different country, how about seeing some of Oz - that time of year is ideal to see Top End and tropical north Qld. Wildlife and scenery is phenomenal. Camping is fun up there....or hire a campervan.....
How old are the kids?

I can recommend Dubai, you can fly with Emirates airlines and stop over there. Fantastic beaches, great weather (if a little too hot in the summer) and good shopping.

If you do stop there then make sure to stay in a hotel in an an area called Jumeriah (on the beach). Don't stay in the city centre (called Deira) as it's congested, noisy and miles from the beach.

Warning : it gets to 50 degrees c in much of July and August ! :scared:

Some exellent suggestions although I would advise Kinabalu as a cheaper alternative to Brunei.

Thailand is a fantastic country to travel to.

Other options include HK, Japan, China, Brazil, Argentina and Sri Lanka. It all depends on your budget and requirements.

Go GB also recommended Phuket, Its favourite at the moment. How did the kids like it? Was there much for them to do? Did it feel safe out there?

It certainly looks like a beautifull place.

Cheers.

How about Borneo, Sabah [email protected]
the orang utan reserves are interesting to visit.
Kota Kinabalu, or Sarawak [email protected] .
my kids had 2 school trips to Sarawk and we went there for holidays, there's so much to see.the long houses are fascinating to visit. We stayed next to sarawak cultural village Damai beach resort.

Thailand, Koh samui Bangkok, Bali, Perhentian Islands off north east coast of Malaysia are fantastic for diving/snorkelling.

Or how about India?
do ask I have been to all these places and could write realms but could suggest other places too. (yes lived in Singapore too

anyway HTH

Kids are 1 & 3 so with simple tastes. Beach and swimming pool enough.

For older kids, plenty of excursions available and seasports.

Felt v safe, bird flu not even mentioned by anybody we met and I think Thailand has been given the all-clear now. Roads not very safe (everybody drives fast and badly) but otherwise a very safe, friendly place.

Avoid sleazy Pattong - easily avoided.
