Default Stopover with Family at Dubai Airport on Way to Perth

Hi

The Emirates flights via Glasgow to Perth from Glasgow look great - quality and price - previous posting ..

Has anyone got good experiences of how best to "stopover" with a family in Dubai?

In terms of three kids 3, 6 and 11 and getting them to and from decent hotel from airport etc taht is relaxing, cost effective, things to do etc

As we are 5 we would also need two rooms etc.

PS - Just read about the Transit hotel at Dubai airport - eny experiences of this?

Trying to minimise the stresses of getting there so any experiences greatly welcomed.

Thanks in advance for any help

Cheers

James

have you visited the Tripadvisor or Virtual tourist websites, I found the people on the forum on both sites who actually live in Dubai are really helpful and there are really good reviews of the varoius hotels. When we stopped in dubai n August I got so much information off those websites, really helpful
Not sure what month you are travelling, we were in August and it was sooooooo HOT, too hot to be outside so keep that in mind

I think there are super deals on stopover hotels if you book your Emirates flights through the airline rather than an agent.

I would think a Transit Hotel keeps you on site as it were but that is about the only redeeming feature. You don't see the real Dubai and they must be noisy? I appreciate that ferrying family to and from a hotel away from the airport has logistical issues but personally I'd want to see Dubai. If you only have less than 24 hrs stopover in mind then Transit Hotel might be the best practical option.

Try looking at the Millennium Airport Hotel it is just outside the airport is 4* but very nice as apposed to Le Meridien airport Hotel which is 5*. If you have British passports you will have no problem with visa to exit the airport.

You don't say how long you have in Dubai. But if it's a few hours then as previously said the Millennium Hotel is literally 2 minutes from the airport. You are not too far from the Creek where you can go to the Spice & Gold Souks. You can also see all the Dhows moored up along the Creek. This is the real Dubai. Beach hotels are all very well but with the traffic now in Dubai can take you over an hour to get to if there are no accidents (that would be a miracle, there are usually 3 on sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) before 6:00am each day and that's before rush hour).

If you need any further info please ask.

If you have a minimum of 8 hours between flights at Dubai Emirates will put you up for free in the Millenium Hotel. Check with your travel agent.

Are you stopping to have a look around Dubai. We just travelled straight through and I am glad we did it was hard enough getting through the airport for our next flight let alone getting out of the airport to another hotel and back again.

We had an afternoon flight from Gatwick to Dubai so by the time the kids got on the second flight Dubai to Perth they were ready to sleep and so were we.

Be warned that security is really slow at the moment and it took us a good while to get through security at Dubai even though we were just connecting! (Also slow at Gatwick)

I am sure it's different for us as we have two small ones (2 1/2 and 15 months) so you will have more choices. Hope you have a good flight and a nice time in Dubai.
