Default 'Stingers' on digital satellite in the UK!

This is only for those who are interested, I'm not looking for any Stingers is a c**p program comments

If you have digital satellite in the UK, the Plus channel (118) is showing old episodes of Stingers (1998) on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights at 10.00 pm. It is a down to earth crime series about undercover cops (Stingers) in Melbourne. (Stingers was recently moved from its regular timeslot in Australia so they could show 2 episodes of CSI in a row)

Oooh, it's reached the UK, then, has it? The first time we saw it was about a year ago, on cable in our hotel in Stockholm! The Swedes love it, apparently...

Anya.

I didn't catch Peter Phelps in Sons and Daughters. The last two years on our visits we have watched them filming Stingers on location - at Albert Park Lake once and Beacon Cove the other and stopped to watch. We got talking to Phelps (and the tall guy, Frederickson?) who is a really nice guy. We enjoy watching it and I like trying to spot the film locations. A few years back they asked my parents if they could use their house in Williamstown in an episode but my mother refused because the storyline was about drugs and she thought people would recognise their house and associate it with this. Blue Heelers is filmed in Williamstown virtually each week and we saw them filming in Nelson Place 4 or 5 times last month. (now they've gone and blown up the former 'Mt Thomas' police station in Thompson St and have a new one!)

You spoke to Phelps and he was civil? He must be mellowing in his old age. I met him once at the Moomba Parade in Melbourne when Sons & Daughters was popular. He was so rude!!

I did enjoy Blue Heelers though. In my opinion one of the better Aussie drama's.

We might have caught him on a good day then Hels! They were actually filming a sequence on the seafront at Beacon Cove (before we got the 'barra' and chips from Rex Hunt's D'lish Fish!) in a huge black Commodore and he was in the driver's seat. We were looking from the back and he had to turn around to talk to passengers in the back. He got out of the car (stopping filming) and explained very nicely how we were in his eyeline but that we could move around to the side, take photos, speak to him later etc. I noticed how short he was and that he had a couple of cushions on the driver's seat to make him look taller. (Phelps sister is the head of the medical association in Oz (Kerryn?) You'll probably know the other reason she hit the headlines?

We prefer Blue Heelers too, particularly because of its Williamstown connection. My father sends us tapes regularly with BH's and Stingers amongst other things on. Postcards is another favourite - for the places in Victoria it visits. There was a whole episode on Bendigo last year when we were over.

I have always wanted to go to D'lish Fish...have heard good things about it.

Kerryn, his sister hitting the headlines? you mean because she is gay??

I remember postcards and I did used to watch that from time to time.

D'lish Fish is excellent but very long queues quite often - place your order, get your number and go for a stroll along the new waterfront there and come back later if it's busy. It's well worth waiting for though with many different varieties of fish each day. The number one place for fish and chips in Melbourne (according to The Age and Herald-Sun recently) is a new place in Federation Square, name of which escapes me. It's very popular now, people eat their fish and chips in the square or on the riverfront. Top of the Bay in Williamstown is in the top 5 as well.

Postcards is not quite as good now - Geoff Cox (www.coxy.com.au) left Ch 9 this year and has his own show (not as good as Postcards used to be!) on Ch 7.

(Yep, Kerryn Phelps left her husband but that's her own business, it just made big headlines at the time.

The funny thing about Kerryn is I always suspected she was, cant really explain way. I just wasnt surprised when it came out that she was.

One of the saddest things that has happened since I left Oz was Shirley Strachan dying...He was my hero growing up. Loved Skyhooks and loved Shirls neighbourhood...hehe...was much better than Simon Townsends Wonder World....

Gawd...the memories

Hels,

Now you're stirring memories. Livin' in the 70's was a classic. Yes, it was sad when he died in the plane crash. Latterly Shirl (Graham for those wondering, curly hair like Shirley Temple, hence his nickname) was good as a carpenter on one of those makeover/lifestyle programs. I go back further than that, my heroes were the likes of the Easybeats, Masters Apprentices, Billy Thorpe, Max Merritt, Russell Morris and so on. I would have loved to have gone to the 'Long way to the top' concert at Melbourne Park but I've got the tape instead. What is sad is to see the state Stevie Wright is in but he still managed a fantastic rendition of Evie at the concert last year. These and Midnight Oil, John Farnham, Ice House, John Williamson, Yothu Yindi, Crowded House etc feature heavily in my record collection. John Farnham is meant to be doing a concert with Dame Kiri etc and an orchestra at Werribee Mansion early in 2005. Memories! I see you have 19 days to go too! Good luck.

Are you leaving on the 14th too???

I went to see Billy Thorpe in a concert on the Gold Coast a few years ago. It was him and the original line up of the Aztecs. Was an awesome night!!

Most of those names you mentioned are some of my favourite music ever. I also loved Hunters & Collectors and do you remember Pseudo Echo?? Or Divinyls?? Also a couple of my other favourites...

I saw BT with the original and the Sunbury Aztecs. He is on at Crown Casino in September. Yep, I have some tracks by H&C's and Divinyls. In the days of Napster I once managed to download and put on CD an all time Australian Top 40 which included all those singers/groups we've mentioned.

No, I'm not leaving on 14th, I just noticed it under your username that there were 19 sleeps to go. We went out at the end of June and came back just over 2 weeks ago. It's only 45 weeks or 315 sleeps until our next visit.

OzTennis

P.S. I'll probably pull out the long way to the top tape tonight if the Olympics get boring (there's only so much will Paul race or not race that one can take) - there's also Stingers at 10.00 pm!

I used to have loads of songs from Napster too, but that was back on my computer I had in Oz. Not sure whats left on it now as a g/f of mine has been keeping it for me.

Oh, the way you said "too" I thought you meant you were leaving. So how long have you been over here now then? Are you planning on moving back?

Oh, just thought of another awesome Oz band I have seen a few times in concert, The Angels. I was so in luurrrvvveee with Doc Neeson....

I am not gonna get "Am I ever gonna see your face again....(No way, get f*%^d, f%*k off)" out of my head for days now....LOL
