British Expats - still waiting

We sent medicals and police checks at the beginning of March and thought I would email Adelaide to check everything was going ok as lots of people who applied at similar times are receiving visas. They replied very quickly saying just waiting for a work reference from Somerset County Council (my employer).
I did include a letter from them in my application as I had used it for my skills assessment. Do they contact all employers? Is it because I am a teacher? Getting really fed up with waiting!

why not contact the reference and give em a boot up the arse if they haven't done it yet.
