Stay at home mom.
I'm a stay at home mom. I have 3 children 2 of them are at school and my youngest is 6 months old. I go to lots of mother and baby groups and go to lots of free course the school offers to the moms.
My husband is worried that when i get to Australia that i will find it hard to settle. As he will meet new people at work, our children will meet new friends at school.
So i would just like to know how other stay at home moms have found it.
I'm hoping to try and carry on as normal joining mother and baby groups, hopefully meeting new people on the play ground. Do Australian schools offer courses to moms as i do enjoy going as i feel when i do finally go back to work these courses will help with confidence and it keeps the brain working (to much teletubies) and again helps to meet new people.

I don't work and I've met far more people here than Jim has. Mind you, he works from home so that's not hard.
You have to make an effort to get out and do things. I work at the school tuck shop and you meet lots of people that way. I also play social tennis which is nice as they are a real mix of nationalities and we also have nights out. I more recently started voluntary work so I get to meet another set of people.
I've also met with some lovely people from this site (yes, there are some )so you just have to take every opportunity you can to get to meet people. It can be very isolating if you don't. School holidays are a bit weird here as everybody goes away every break and usual social activities stop so that can be a bit lonely. The more people you get to know, the more chance you have to click with somebody.

Re: Stay at home mom.
I have found that where we live (semi - rural) most Mums are stay at home. There are not many jobs that fit around children.
Our community really does evolve around the school. The school hold fairly regular BBQ's and working bee's. I personally help in the classrooms 2 days a week. It gives me a purpose and I can keep check of the little devils at the same time. My youngest was welcome in the classroom with me until she became school age. Often she didn't want to go home so the teacher kept her on to the end of the day with the other students.... I went shopping The parents help in all aspects so meeting other mums is really easy. I am not sure how things are in the burbs though.

Believe me the best way to make friends is through your kids.
I have been here 16 months , my youngest is 7 the youngest of 6.
I will be going to work in the next couple of weeks, in the local childrens home.
Our friends here are lovely and all whom i have met through school or expats.
You will make friends also. I think we have a bigger circle of friends here, and they have been so good for us, and you will to.
Dont worry. you will be fine

Re: Stay at home mom.
Thank you for all the replies and i will continue with my daily activities in Oz as normal as i would do in the UK. House work, house work, house work, play group, more house work.
I met my best friend from a mother and baby group with my first child 8 years ago, and i find meeting people at mother and baby groups and at schools you have some think in common straight away KIDS.
When i get to the Gold Coast me and the OH intend to go on the meet ups organized by BE as i think its good to socialise as a couple as well.
I don't want to replace my friends just looking to make more.

I'm soon to be a billy no mates too!
I've got a 3yr old & will hopefully be attending some groups with her & meet some new friends that way, & just as important, friends for her. I reckon it's got to be easier meeting people when you've got young children. Try this site
