Default In state sponsored programme & skill match?

We have just found out that my husbands trade (roof tiler) is on the occupations in demand list for Melbourne, Victoria, although our agent advised us it wasn't! This is not our first choice of location though, that is Perth or Brisbane. My question is, is it possible to go down the skill matching route and hope that an employer from your first choices of location picks you up? Do you even have a choice of refusal if any employer offers you a job. At the same time if the skill matching doesn't work out can you then go down the state sponsored route?

Thankyou all again, Carol.

Perth and Brisbane are not 'designated' areas, but Melbourne is. That's because the
Victoria state government is more keen than most for new migrants.

If you mean by 'first choice' Perth/Brisbane, the answer is no because employers in
these areas can't sponsor.

As far as I know, yes you can refuse the offer. But then there is no guarantee
another offer will come up.

See above. If you get an offer of any kind and reject it, there's no guarantee
anything else will come your way.

You have to decide how much you want to come to Australia. Melbourne is quite nice
and has plenty of opportunities - give it a go, you might like it there.
