State schools vs Private Which one??
Hi all,
My eldest daughter starts school next yr, and am having to make a decision on schooling, state or private, Ive looked at so many, and was hoping if anyone could shed some light, maybe if they have kids that go to either?
Many thanks for any replies. KatieXX

Hi,
Queensland (Sunshine Coast)
I think private schools are more stricter, not sure though.
Their is a catholic school right by us.

That is one of the reasons we jumped to private in the end, our son was shell shocked by his Aus state school where everyone sweared including the teachers and nobody did what they were told.

State school when the eldest was in grade 1 - had a few problems with her teacher (ie. forgot to give her home readers for first six months and we didn't know she was supposed to be getting them) some of the other kids in the class were horrible (ie. teacher told one kid to stop what he was doing or he'd be sent to the office, kid replies she better shut her F*****ing mouth her he'd punch her in it).
Took her out and sent her to Somerville House for a couple of years. They gave her extra reading support and caught her up very quickly (she's a great reader now) We were really happy with it, but having three kids in private school would have been expensive, so when our son started school, we took our daughter out of Somerville and put her into catholic school with our son. Saved heaps of money and time and the catholic school had a strings program, dance program etc, also co-ed which we wanted as girls who have no contact with boys can be pretty nasty creatures. We were very happy with it.
All three are in catholic school in Perth now. But moving to Dubai in a couple of weeks, so back to the private system.

It's amazing the differance between different schools.
Problem is once you put a child in one and they like it even if you have any issues you can't just move them to get what you want in a school or you are constantly messing with their head.
Emigrating, as in your case, is differnet as it is obviously a forced move so you have no choice.

My kids went to all three types of schooling in QLD.

Fortunately when we moved our daughter to private and then catholic, she already knew heaps of kids at those schools from her ballet and acting classes, so she fitted in straight away. My kids a pretty adaptable creatures and seem to take all the changes in their stride. That will obviously change as they get older, but at the moment they're only 9, 7 and 5.

Yeah - we've always changed their schools at the start of the school year, even this move to Dubai has been timed so that they can start the school year in September with everyone else. Even if they go to the same school, classmates and teachers change with each year so they're used to that.

Yeah, but as I said, in Brisbane, they knew heaps of kids at their new schools from outside activities. And as for their current school in Perth and whatever school they'll be at in Dubai, I just encourage them to think of it all as an exciting adventure and making even more friends.
