State school fees
A brief word on the cost of schooling your nippers here.
If you are on a 457 visa you will be required to pay for your young ones schooling. In a state school this will weigh in at around $4500 per annum plus a small application fee.
Whilst I'm not exactly jumping through hoops at this discovery, it strikes me as a pretty sensible idea that the non-permanent residents pay for the services they use. Do we in the UK exercise such a levy on visitors? If we don't I suggest we ought to.

Re: State school fees
terrific - great news!
I still think its a laudible principle, but obviously I'm now bitter and twisted about the fact that only the state I live in choose to levy this charge.

I personally think it's unreasonable considering that 457 visa holders are subject to the full brunt of Australian taxation, with only a few concessions.
