Don't forget you need about 11 years' NI contributions to get any pension at all - worth topping up with voluntary Class 3s if you fall a little bit short.

Sorry if this seems a silly question...but what happens to your pension when you emigrate...can you still get anything from britain when you reach the age...? If so what do they do ...pay into a bank account...? Any ideas much appreciated as I have wondered about this...

You can get it transferred to you in Aus/ NZ but with no annual increase. Your entitlement doesn't change just because you leave UK as a resident. Your entitlement is based on the number of years' NI contributions you make.
