Default State Nominations?

As a guide, for general skilled visa applications you should expect a waiting time of about a year. That said, the processing time would come down to about 4 to 6 months if you were a nurse, or if you could obtain a State Nomination from Victoria or South Australia.
Just wanted to know a few things...would this involve still being able to live in a major city, e.g. Adelaide. Also how do I go about this? Do I apply direct to jobs in the area or is it a pool system?
Thanks Susan

Yes, you can live in Adelaide (if nominated by SA) or Melbourne (ditto re Victoria).

You seek the nomination from the SA or Victoria Governments - there's more info at these websites:
http://www.gomatilda.com/news/article.cfm?articleid=224
http://www.migration.vic.gov.au/CA25...D?OpenDocument
http://www.immigration.sa.gov.au/site/index.cfm

If you can obtain a State Nomination your application is "bumped up" to a 137-STNI visa application, and as a result your application is fast tracked through to a visa decision.

You can also seek State Nomination via a Skills Matching application, but we usually look at STNI in conjunction with a 136-Skilled Independent application as the 136 and 137-visas both sit under the same visa class.

Also, note that State Nomination is not a job offer, nor a guarantee of one.

Does this help?

Thanks for the help, I've looked at the first list and unfortunately teachers don't seem to feature...looks like I'll have to go through the longer skilled method. Still it'll be worth it in th eend!

Teachers are on the Regional Victoria list - so you could look at (say) Geelong, and a Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme application ...
