Hi all

We are moving to Perth in October thid year. My daughter is currently in reception at primary school in the UK D.OB 12/11/2005 and will start year 1 this September. As far as I can make out, she will start year 1 in Australia in Feb 2012. Is this correct?

Also my son is due to start school reception this September D.O.B 30/07/2007, where will he fit in in Oz? Will he be in Kindy or still at day care.

I am so confused, reading so many different posts has made it worse!

Is there anyone who can give me a simple table of how it works, or direct me to a website that does?

You are correct, your eldest will start Year 1 in WA in 2012. Your youngest will enter Kindy in 2012 which is currently 2 days per week in the majority of schools. It is non compulsory which means you are not guaranteed a place in a school, even if you live in catchment for that school. Compulsory education starts at year 1.
