Question Stamp Duty in WA

I understand that stamp duty must be paid for purchase of a 2nd hand house.

But, is it required to be paid on the purchase of new land? With the intent of building a house on it in the near future?

Stamp duty is only paid on a 2nd hand house if it is over $500k, anything less for a first home owner is stamp duty free.
Land, again for first home owners, is exempt from stamp duty if it is under
$300k and you intend on building to live in it. We have just done this. We had to pay the stamp duty up front then claim it straight back once we had our building contract. We got it all back but have spoke to a few others who didn't have to pay it up front!! Our settlement agent said it depends on who you deal with in the state revenue office as to weather they request it up front or not Either way you get it straight back.
