Default Stamp Duty Thresholds

Breaking news in budget - stamp duty raised from £60k to £120k - hope this helps people at the bottom of the chains and gets our houses selling.......

About as much use as a chocolate teapot round our way. You can't buy a garage for that. It would have been much better to say that if you can prove you are a FTB there is no stamp duty at all.

I personally think this is great news. For many of us that are still waiting to sell there houses before leaving these sunny shores, this is like Christmas come early. It must be said, depending on where you live, is to how much this will effect your sale, but certainly in my surrounding area you can still buy 1 & 2 bedroom flats or Houses for under 120K. Anything to give life back to the housing market gets my vote. Its also very good that they have introduced the raise from midnight tonight. My concerns would have been that they introduce this is 6 months times, and completely stall the housing market.

Perhaps with easter approaching now and this stamp duty raise, some of us will be able to sell quickly and live our dreams in Aus.

Best of luck to you all.

I`m so glad Oz gives first-time buyers $7k towards a house. Pity it wasn`t the $15k or whatever it was before, but anything`s better than renting forever in the UK.
