Hello!

To bring this thread back on topic...
I live in Springwood and I have family who live in Daisy Hill and Shailer Park. I used to live in Kuraby and I worked in Eight Mile Plains.

To be honest, they are all so close together there isn't much between them. You have nice areas and not so nice areas in all of the suburbs - you choose which area you want to live in. Eight Mile Plains and Kuraby - on the other side of the highway - have a lot of new development going on. Brand new flashy houses on smaller plots. The houses in Springwood and other on the coastal side of the highway have more houses that have been around a bit longer.

Personally, I think Springwood is great as it's close to everything and its in the process of being improved as they expect it to be the next major centre outside of Brisbane in a few years time.
Getting into the city or around and about is easy because Springwood is close to all the major motorways, and it also has a big bus terminal that has a dedicated bus lane straight into the city. I have gone on the bus into downtown Brisbane and been there in 15 minutes by bus. It has two average size shopping centres of its own and easy driving to two huge malls (Garden City or the Hyperdome) lots of parks, a brand new library (opening in December), huge pool to go swimming in ($3 a day).... and my favourite part - its only a 5 minute bicycle ride to Daisy Hill Forest, where there is a Koala conservation centre and a forest so huge that people get lost in it! Lots of single tracks for mountain biking, trails for hiking, horseriding or just taking the dog out. I go riding there for an hour or two and only bump into a handful of people on a busy day.
Plus we know all of our neighbours on the street by name, socialise regularly and they are all lovely!

I think it's the best of both worlds! City, bush or coast - all easy to get to.

But - the same could be said about Daisy Hill or Shailer Park too. They are all very close.

Perhaps you should base your choice on the schools - and unfortunately I can't help you in that area. My little lad is only 1 1/2 years old. However - for kids of his age there is heaps to do! Parks, playgroups, nursery rhyme groups, free healthchecks at the local child health clinic, etc etc.

You could always contact one of the local real estate offices for info. Try www.sfn.com.au - I found them to be really helpful.

Lotsa luck!

W.

I am now left with an image of you climbing out of your box to post on BE and then getting back into the box again when you've finished posting etc etc.

Before rabs' offer slips into the cyber backwaters I, for one, think that's a splendid idea.

I'll be wearing my polkadot cravat and the crushed velvet smoking jacket I got for Xmas.
