Default Spouse visa query

Hi,

This is the first time that I've posted a question on here but I am hoping that someone may be able to give some advice.

I received my residency about 2 months ago based on having successfully applied for a spouse visa however since then my wife and myself and have been having major relationship problems that I'm not too sure we'll survive. If we split up, where does that leave me in relation to my residency? Technically she's my sponsor but now that I'm a resident does that still matter?

Richard

If you're a permanent resident then it doesn't matter. You are here in your own right and your residency won't be taken away with or w/o wife.

Quite right. As long as you have got your PR you needn't notify DIMA even. You are here in your own right now.
Its more complicated if you are still on the temp part of the visa.

If you're on a temp visa then pack your bags! Sorry about your troubles too.

theres a few exceptions apparently if you are still on a temp visa - children can make a difference, also stuff like domestic violence, but basically if its a straightforward parting of the waves, pack up and go home.
Kind of encourages you to keep the rel'ship going, doesn't it

Must be a horrendous position though - you come all this way to be with your spouse, and it all falls apart. Harder than a "normal" split.
