Default sport injuries, physio & medicare

My eldest son & my wife have both been receiving quite a lot of physio treatments due to either sport injuries (son) and bad back (wife)

Does anybody know if any of the bills can be claimed at medicare? This week alone has cost me more than $200! and it would be nice if I could get something back. Looked on the medicare site, but couldnt find a straight answer.

Dont think so, OH has been having extensive physio and each session (30 mins) cost $11 with private health cover.

Have a read about Enhanced Primary Care Programs, available via GPs for various long-term conditions http://www.health.gov.au/internet/ma...allied-cnt.htm. An EPC can be set up to suit individual needs and entitles you to services from various health professionals.

We've been having a lot of these sessions too, and the amount of rebate has now dropped down, increasing the gap between the fee and what we get back. Ours now cost about $40 after the rebate.

I only get a rebate through my private health care, and as I go every week, it doesn't last long! I am starting to think that along with the other specialists I see, I might as well be on the higher cover.

Maybe having an EPC would help you too, and you could space out the Medicare/EPC visits with private visits. We are on top of the table cover, but still have an ever-increasing gap to pay for. Some private health funds are better than others for the amount of cover you get, and if you have a chronic condition, it pays to do some homework. Some parents I know have hospital cover through one provider, and allied health through another.

Save all yor receipts though because if you go over a certain amount you can claim something back at tax time.

I know about that one.

last financial year my medical bills came to nearly $4k so was able to claim, this coming year will be even more

A friend thought that you could claim the first 10 visits at the physio/chiro so i'll just go into the medicare office & ask.
