from sponsorship to residence.....
Hi
My original plan was to apply for permanent residency, but this will not work as I am not on the Skilled Migration List. However, I have been offered a sponsorship.
Does anyone know if i can then apply for permanent residency when I am in Australia (during my sponsorship), despite the fact that I am not on the list.
I dont know if that makes sense??!!
Thanks
alison

Just on this visa you wont be able to. Youll need to be out here at least 4 years and then apply and see how you go. Or you could marry an Aussie !!

Alison,
What type of sponsorship is it ?
457 temp ? RSMS ? ENS ? The latter two are PR visas.
Neil.
Sorry mate but I don't think what you say is correct.

I think its the 457 visa. So, 4 years - might find an aussie in that time!

Irrespective of the duration of the 457 temp visa you can apply for PR at any time. I am on one and am applying after being here for 4 months.
If you think you can qualify for a full visa do it as soon as possible.
If I understand correctly Alison is saying she can't get a skilled class PR visa because her trade is not recognised. In that case Alison push your sponsor for RSMS or ENS which are both full PR visas.
