sponsorship-PR or 457
I had read here that a company can sponsor you straight away for PR instead of the 457 that they all seem to do,is this correct? Why do they go for the 457 and then the PR later? Does it cost more or take longer for the PR?
How can you get your company to sponsor you for PR first?
Has anyone had any experience of this?
Any comments welcome!!

Hi,
the company can sponsor you directly for PR, for example for the RSMS or the ENS visa. This actually happened to us (with the RSMS visa). However most companies want to get you asap, and the 457's are often quicker. It really depends how desperately they want you and if you are in a good position to negotiate. Our company wanted to provide only a 457 at first, but we insisted to make it a RSMS straight away. The downside is that you either have to be able to walk away from the job offer if they are not willing to provide a PR straight away or otherwise you have to agree on a 457 anyway.

Hi Bushy,
we're looking a 457/rsms too and it would seem its cheaper to do 457 plus as katielilly states it's quicker although from reading bits on here and the immigration one too it would seem rsms get through fairly quickly - 4 mths I mean by that!
457 does have some down points but a lot of people have found them to be fine and then gone on to pr after 6 mths plus!
interested to know what job/industry you're interested in - we're farming, hopefully in SA

We are going on a 457 visa, Rachel is a nurse and the hospital want her out there asap, then when she has completed her 3 months probationary period the hospital will sponsor her for PR.
They just need people out there asap, this is quicker, and you can apply for PR whilst working and living in Oz.
Hope this helps,
Paul

Same story here, hubby's company wanted him here asap so 457 was the quickest way to get us into the country (we've now been here 6 weeks). They are now in the process of applying for ENS - yippee!
Best of luck with whatever you end up going for, you won't regret it .

we came on a 457 cos it's faster than a PR, and now we're here we're applying for an STNI-the state has agreed to sponsor us-just waiting for our container to arrive (which is now 14 weeks from crown collecting the stuff) and then we can apply for the visa-we only need to meet the pool mark to be elegible.
