Point system gives you more freedom of choice when you arive, not so much freedeom of choice with sponorship..If you have the time and the choice go for the points system

Sponsored by a company for what? A temporary or a permanent visa?

Companies can sponsor for permanent visas too, such as ENS. ENS is not points tested.

If you go on a 457 visa (temporary) there are lots of disadvantages/problems to deal with.

If when you say ENS you mean a *permanent* visa (subclass 121) and not the temporary subclass 457 visa (which is not ENS, but some people call it that) then you should be ok.

Under rules in place since April, a skill assessment is normally required for immediate permanent residence under ENS. Download and read migration booklet 5 from the DIMIA site.

We're going on a 457 (hubby is relocating within same company). What disadvantages/problems are we likely to encounter with this type of Visa?

.....sorry for the hijack

The following thread is a start point:

To begin with, what's your employer's policy on sponsoring for PR and is the employer committed to providing full medical insurance and covering for any extra education costs you incur?
