spider,spider!

My name is Tim and I'm only eleven years old. What spiders will I expect to find in perth as I'm frightened not for myself but for my 2 dogs. I'm basically asking if any of your dogs have been bitten by a poisonous spider and if so were they alright.

Don't forget I am only 11 so please no rude replies.

Tim

Hi Tim,

I used to live in Perth, and as far as I remember we never had any trouble with spiders and the dogs. They may have seen a Huntsman now and again, but basically you have to remember that spiders (and snakes) are more scared of us and dogs than we are of them (normally :) ), so they will try their best to keep out of the way.

We had a couple of Brown snakes in Perth, in the garage and garden. They are VERY poisonous, but even so they didn`t bite a dog, and the warden came and caught them.

I`d be more worried about you than the dogs.... ie you`ll learn about redback spiders and where they like to nest... in dark covered places, and what not to do. So where you may have been rummaging through dried wood or things in the UK looking for weavils etc... you don`t want to do that in Aus as you may find a redback or a snake.

But don`t let me worry you. In all my time there I never knew or heard of anyone being bitten by a redback or snake or anything. The Huntsman spiders look scarey but they are ok.

Hope I haven`t said anything to scare you.
