Just on the off chance, my hubbie was searching the inet last night but not getting very far...does anyone know if there are any Landrover Specialists in Perth, who customise Landys to customers specifications??

Hubbie is a Mechanic by trade, however, has worked in this industry for a number of years and is very experienced to rebuilding them, this varies from people who want to travel and live in there vehicles for months or couple of years to putting body armour in, our converting for the disabled...anything really.

Any thoughts!!!!

cheers Dawn x

I saw a tv program that said that land rovers are only 10% of off roaders that are brought in oz mostly by city dwellers so if he can tun his hands to working on toyota land cruisers then that gives him a better chance.

Well since you've brought the subject up. It's a popular saying out here that for every Landrover that enters the bush you have to send in a Cruiser to recover it. Landrovers have a shocking rep here Land Cruisers being the top choice for most serious offroaders

I think with the new Discovery, that might have to change. I'm not a big fan of Landrovers, but the new Disco is a fantastic vehicle.

Hi, I'm not in Perth, but have a mate here in Qld who is landrover mad, belongs to all the clubs etc, owns a few landrovers, does them up etc etc, goes real bush/outback trips with the clubs ( and he's an Aussie born and bred - he's barking landrover mad. They have quite a following here by some Aussies , so don't let anyone tell you any diff - people don't all like the same things, Aussies are no diff in that respect.)

You could try this site below, there are forums on there too, they may be able to help you with your questions.

from the LAND-ROVER OWNERS CLUB OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA (Inc):

http://www.geocities.com/lrocwa/

There are landrover businesses , suppliers etc, parts etc etc link page in the above site too.

If Landrovers are so bad why do the Australian Army have them?

You could ask the same question about the British army issue SA-80 or L85 assault rifle or the desert boots with the melting soles.
The answer is the same it's down to cost Land Rovers are cheap and cheerful and when supplied in bulk are very cost effective.
Bye the way I'm not anti Land Rover I ran them for years back home, built hybrids for offroading and belonged to the local offroading club.
I think the reason why they have a bad name here is simple, people only remember the old series 2a's and 3's the rattling boneshaking ones that would hardly endure you to them here where chances are you'll be doing hundreds of k's as opposed to tens and that's just on your own property never mind the 3 hour drive to town with the wind howling through the wobbly door tops to collect the groceries
