Sparky advice
My husband is coming to Aus on a spouse visa sub class 100. He is an electrician with 30yrs experience 18th edition with other quals. Advice required please as to how he can work in his trade in Melbourne as it seems he will need to start at the bottom again as an electrians mate for a year and worryingly there are not many jobs advertised for a non grade A electrician?

Re: Sparky advice
That’s is true back to school I’m afraid having 30yrs experience in the UK has no bearing in Australia. If you don’t know anybody that can also cause a few problems.I also had 30yrs experience when I came out 2009 it’s was like starting again but once you find a position and you know your stuff you can easily progress quickly through the ranks.. Domestic housing market is pretty slow at the moment in QLD and across Australia so having good contacts would help find work. |

My husband is thinking about coming out on a 3 month tourist visa to see what contacts he can make. Do you have any advice on companies worth contacting? Thanks for your help to date. |
Re: Sparky advice
I’ll state what I’ve said before, I have no idea what re training needs to be done but hubby has worked for electrical wholesaler for 30 yrs now, this should be the first port of call of sparkies looking for jobs as sparkies picking up, ordering gear always talk about jobs coming up, slowing up business or needing staff. It’s like a pub counter for sparkies, wholesalers always know who’s looking. |
