Spam

Not the lovely(?) meat (??) product but bloody spam emails. Has anybody else suddenly started to receive stupid amounts of porn. Since joining this site we had seen an increase but just lately its gone crazy we've had over 100 today alone. So if anyone wants a link to see Britney Spears having a shower (we get that one about 30 times a day) I can point you in the right direction.

Actually yes I have. xxx porn pop ups and a lovely trojan virus despite an up to date firewall. Luckily for me I updated my viruscan the day before I got the virus.
Very annoying I must say it is too.

There was a thread like this a few days ago -

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...hreadid=190319

if you look at my post on the end of it, you'll see how I stopped the pop-ups. I also have Norton anit-virus protection. Since I installed the ad-aware thing in the other post I've only had one attempted virus attack - that was yesterday by (of all people) the ROYAL MAIL!!!! Was on their site trying to get it to produce a postcode for me, next minute the Norton thing is flashing with an attempted virus attack traced back to them....!!!

I use anti-virus software (Norton), free anti-spyware software (SpyBot) and PopupStopper, which is also a free version.

Spybot can be found here:

and PopupStopper:

I'm not affiliated with them in any way, I just use their software. Both programs are free, and after using them for several months I personally have had no trouble from them. That's my disclaimer! :D

There are a few new worms around at the moment that are causing extra spam for everyone. One thing to note about Spam and viruses is that they can pretend to be from another source (usually someone in the address book of the actual source).

Re: Spam

I am being swamped by spam of late. First thing I do these days is delete all the unnecessary mails that has come. I was wondering why there are so many spam mails. In a way good to know that I am not the only one.

How did this trojan show itself - might be a daft question but I'm not very computer literate.

Be aware folks that an up to date virus programme is not everything. You need to make sure you have downloaded and installed all the latest MS Windows service packs and security fixes to stop some of the latest viruses like blaster and nachi from infecting you.

Hi Steve - sorry to sound thick, but I downloaded this and had a quick look at the tutorial, but still couldn't work out how this will stop the spam! Please help, I too get about 50 a day, I stopped lots at first by inputting message rules, flagging certain words, but now theyve started misspelling them or adding different symbols, what can I do?
