Default Spaghetti bolognaise is Australia's national dish

FORGET meat and three vegies, fish and chips or pie and peas. Spaghetti bolognaise is Australia's national dish.

Southern Cross University historian Dr Adele Wessell has researched what Australians cook most often at home, and Spaghetti Bolognaise tops the list.

Got it in one, its the favourite here! In fact you are lucky to be getting a BBQ tonight, if it werent for the assumption of those coming that we would BBQ, you probably would have got pasta of some sort (or sorts)

Not on one plate you will understand

Pasties
Spaghetti bolognaise
Lasagne
Sausage beans and chips

In our household pasta replaced the Sunday roast many years ago.

Actually there's a good Italian restuarant we go to occassionally that does a pasta pasty !

Chicken Tikka Masala to be precise, which is not even an Indian dish but something specially invented for the Brits. (Mind you so much of what gets served in "Indian" restaurants is inauthentic. Or so I'm told. What would I know, I've never been to India or thereabouts.)
