Default South Sydney area

Hi all,

Been looking at the property market in Sydney with a view to buying in August September time. In particular, I have been looking at the Ingleburn/Maquarie Fields/Glenfield area, as the properties seem to be quite reasonable, with good transport (Rail and road) links to Sydney and Wollongong and only 20K from the coast and the nice beaches at Cronulla.

Is there any particular reason that the property prices are as they are? Does anybody have any knowledge of these areas to give me an idea of what to expect there in terms of services, shops, recreation etc etc?

I will go and have a look when I arrive in the summer, but it would be nice to be forewarned of any reall issues with the area.

Hi Swervo ! Please search for my post Sydney - South West suburbs ( sorry don't know how to post a link to it ! )
All the areas you mentioned are all on the main tran line from Campbelltown to Sydney but as Pommieleague mentioned there was massive riots in MacQuarie Fields just a few months ago. There is a lot of "public housing" or council houses as we know it in these areas and also a lot of friction with the police. It's not like that throughout the whole area BUT it's a case of the minority spoiling it for the rest.
There are a lot of good areas down this way and very accesible for most things, depends on what you are looking for. Don't let negative posters put you off looking in the MacArthur/Campbelltown area , it has a lot to offer. How do I know ? Well , I'm living here.
All the best and if I can help you with anything , just PM me .
Tass.
