We are defo moving to Victoria next year and considering the SE. Anyone live there, have comments etc on it?
Going on a 175 visa and want to teach too (secondary).

No but l have been to the area, l moved from a city to country Victoria, would never live in a city again, almost no crime and l leave my door unlocked all the time and no burglaries compared to druggies always trying to break into my house before. l have miles of great spectacular unspoilt beaches with almost no people at my doorstep compared to having to drive through half an hour of busy traffic to get to a crowded polluted beach.

South East Victoria and South Gippsland is a lovely area and as we live on the Mornington Peninsula we have easy access to it. The Latrobe Valley where the power stations are has some nice country areas around and of course there is work in the towns in the Valley, Sale, Traralgon, Churchill. Warrigal, Drouin are nice towns too.
Wonthaggi is very nice, Leongatha, Foster, and further afield, Bairnsdale which is close to the Gippsland lakes and a lot of people live in Metung and around the lakes.
We like Korumburra as its very hilly and nice countryside. We were up at Poowong on the weekend a small town not far away and very pretty up there, cheap acreage for sale and easy access to work on the fringes of the city or towns around.
My son lives in northern Victoria at Yarrawonga and we love the whole area up there too especially as its close to the mountains. Towns around there are Rushworth, Wodonga and Albury on the NSW side, Bright, Myrtleford, Wangaratta, Ballina. Gets a bit hotter there in summer though.

All depends on how you intend to earn a living I suppose - there are some gorgeous areas down in SE Gippsland - I have a soft spot for Orbost - but it can be hard to find a job unless you have a specific skill. The houses are dead cheap though and it is the sort of area where you could be self sufficient on acreage.

As others have pointed out, great place to live if there is enough work.
One of my colleagues moved to Warnambool without letting our firm know it looks like he might be made redundant as there isn't enough work for him down there

Re: South East Victoria
To the South you have some excellent beaches and coatal parks, Wilsons Prom being the obvious which is probably one of the best National Parks in Oz.
Then you get towards places like Lakes Entrance, Metung and the likes which are really nice places. IMO if i was to move to SE Vic I would look at moving somewhere around Bairnsdale, Metung, Lakes Entrance, or Paynesville. Really nice areas around the inland lake systems. But as other state it does get a wee bit cold in the Winter time down there, but summers are fantastic
Good Luck

Lucky girl,
We will be moving out to Traralgon in a few weeks, but
will be living in the countryside (just left Normandy, so
we are country folk also).
We chose the Latrobe valley for the type of work we
do, depends on what you need.

You will find a good deal of that area outside Traralgon just recovering from a bushfire so be aware that things are in recovery mode at the moment (Traralgon South, Calignee etc)

Lucky Girl,
Update to previous post. Been in Traralgon now for a month, LOVE IT !.
Already bought a self sufficient acerage in the Carrajung hills near a rainforest. Hope all works out because it's a place I would like to stay for good.
