Default South East Suburbs - Melbourne

We are planning on Making the move to Melbourne this year after spending 7 years in Auckland. My husband is a Kiwi and shifting with work and I'm from the UK.

Shall rent out our Auckland home out initially. The hubby shall be based on St Kilda Road, near Albert Park. With a budget in the low $700's for a rental, can anyone recommend any nice family suburbs, good Primary School as daughter starts next year with a reasonable commute.

Any thoughts would be welcome, both of us have lived all over, bit daunting as this is first shift with our 3 and 15mth old.

Cheers

Would strongly recommend the Armidale precinct

For schooling Private or Public?

Private I would recommend Lauriston girls
Public I would recommend Armidale primary
Look up also Sutherland house (associated with Lauriston) for younger (Kindy) if needing a day or two break.

Both schools offer good holiday programs and have good swimming programs/pools

Both would allow 15 to 20 min tram ride for husband (or 10 min in car). Its like driving or traming from Mt Eden to Queen Street but on flat.

Working near Albert Park you will enjoy the botanical gardens (meeting for lunch etc)

Running into St Kilda road are in order south from yarra and monash motorway:
- Toorak Road (No 8 Tram)
- Malvern Road (No 7 Tram and 16 just too confuse you)
- High Street (No 6 Tram)

Other areas in close proximity are South Yarra, Windsor, Prahan, Toorak,
Think Remuera, Epsom, Parnell

Hi Hels, just a word about your visa - if I understand your circumstances correctly, your husband is an NZ citizen and you are not? And are your kids NZ citizens? If so, your husband and kids will get a temporary visa on arrival with no application process, you will have to apply for a different temporary visa called a TR461.

Let me know if I've understood your situation correctly and I can advise you on this visa.

Hi Red Dragon, ThAnks for the advice on area's, we currently live in Greenhithe used to Living in a larger space. Not the be all end all for us, however handy if family come to visit from UK and NZ. In the area's above the house rental prices are pushing up towards $900 for something modest. I think we shall have to readjust our commuting expectations and look at places like Bentleigh....

Yep, as NZ citizens you will all be able to enter Australia as temporary residents without having to apply for visas.
