South Australia Nursing
Does anyone have the rates for nursing in SA at Level 1, 2 and 3 please. The South Australia ANF site only displays them if you are a member.

Hi,
I've found some payscales for nurses for different states. They are from July 2001 and if their pay rises are anything like the same as in the Uk I don't suppose they have gone up by much since then!!
The grades for a RN level 1 range from 1 to 8 depending on your experience etc. 1 being newly qualified and 8 being F grade. For some reason they dont go any higher than that on the info I have got!
The rates are per week, based on 38 hours and do not include loadings (shift allowance)
NSW grade 1 $619.90 grade 8 $870
Queensland grade 1 $628 - $848
South Australia $575 - $752
Northern Territory $682 -$875
WA $656 -$838
Victoria $636 - $876
Hope this helps

Hi Tracey
Just to say NSW nurses have had 2 pay rises since 2001 and the current scale from RN1 to RN8 from 1/1/03 is $703.8 - $988.50. full list of pay awards are available at

hi Sue,
thanks for that link, its very helpful!! the rn 1 - 8, is this the scale that represents the years you have been qualified/can show proof of experience? I have been qualified 13 years and can show proof of work for around 7 - 8 years, so would I be on or around scale 8??
cheers!!

The 1-8 represents yrs worked in full time equivalents, eg if you worked part time (say 19-20 hrs/week) for 8 years, then you'd get paid at level 4. Try and get a record of service from your personnel dept before you leave detailing dates and where you worked and what hours at what level.

Level 1.4 $812.00 21.3684
Level 1.5 $845.00 22.2368
Level 1.6 $877.90 23.1026
Level 1.7 $910.70 23.9658

I have been nursing for 21 years with no career breaks and up until last 3yrs I have always worked full time so I am hoping to go in at level 1.9.
Does that sound about right
At current exchange rates I have worked that out to be about £10.33 p/hr .
My present hrly rate is £10.90 therefore not much difference.
Also shift penalty rates seem fairly good
Shift penalty rates:
SATURDAY 50%
SUNDAY 75%
AFTERNOON 12.5%
NIGHT DUTY 20%
Hope this info helps

Hello all you nursey people
One thing I was told repeatedly is to get proof of all your hours of employment for at least the last 10 years as this is what will decide what scale you go in on. 2 years part time roughly equates to 1 year full time. Some places count over 24 hours as full time others class 20 hours. Nothing is easy!
hope this has been some use as I am quite heavily under the influence at the moment
