Re: Sorry Perth Suburbs Question

Hi everyone

like i said earlier on thanks for all the information theres plenty of suburbs to choose from in all your suggestions lol  in order to narrow my search down ive been onto this website http://www.paycalculator.com.au/ to get an idea of what my monthly wage would be based upon 80k it works out about $4700 and together with my OH wages based upon 50K its a total of about $7900, ive been looking at renting a house for around $3000 a month, is this realistic or have i set my sights too high? bearing in mind the cost of your bills/food/and other such things as medical insurance, is there a good website to give me an idea of how much all these things cost as well as things i may be overlooking that will snaffle up my hard cents.

Thanks

Sorry i may have posted this on another topic as well.

Thanks for all the suburbs suggestions i think this weekend depending on how the telephone interview goes i shall sit down a dig through all the info and try and work out a realistic figure of how much i can afford to spend on renting at first.

Ive worked out that with my salary being 80k per year thats about $4700 per month my OH is around 50K per year thats about $3200 a month giving us a total of $7900 so ive been looking at renting somewhere that costs about $3000 a month im just wondering if ive set my sights a little too high? i think i need to do a search on here about the cost of living/bills/and additional stuff like medical insurance (with 2 young kids it may come in handy lol)

My husband and I earn similar amounts to you and we rent a 3 bedroom property in Doubleview for $450/wk. I think $3000 a month seems pretty high. Perhaps look at $550 a week properties tops. That's just my opinion. You should be able to get somewhere pretty decent for $500-$550.

Good Luck.

You can pay from $375 a week upwards for good honest 4x2 if your lucky and persist in the game;)

Yep - we've been in Doubleview over 2 yrs - we are happy with it - 5 mins in the car to the beach - perfect! close to Innaloo/Osborne Pk and Karrinyup Shopping Centres too. You should def be able to find something pretty nice for $550.
Woodlands is really nice too - Jackadder Lake is nice to go for a jog/walk...

Good luck in your search - let me know if you have any other q's.
BTW - the schools are also good in this area - Woodlands/Karrinyup/Doubleview and they all feed into Churchlands Senior High School which is also a great senior school.

Good news is, that according to the ATO website you would have $8520 per month after tax between you! $3000 per month rental will give you something very nice with a pool I would imagine. Like another poster mentioned, a decent house with a pool would be anything from $2400 / month upwards.

Keep in mind food / utilities / health is all expensive in Perth, so rent is only part of the cost. You generally spend more on fuel here as everything is so spread out you have to drive or take the badly provided public transport

Good luck!

State schools do not feed into the catchment for a certain high school (some Catholic primaries do, though). It all depends on where you live - you might go to Karrinyup Primary School, but you might live in the catchment for Carine or Balcatta SHS. Karrinyup is divided across 2 catchments - Carine or Churchlands. Some pockets have the choice of both. If you have kids who will need high school soon, you do have to be careful which side of the road you end up on;).

I think there was one house in Doubleview with pool on www.realestate.com.au for $550 pw. There perhaps aren't too many pools in Doubleview as it is one of those areas that have been re-zoned and in-filled, so there are far fewer single houses on a block than there used to be. Therefore, the blocks are smaller, less garden and less room for a pool, and where there used to be one house on the block there are now 3 or more. The same has happened in Woodlands and Karrinyup, but there seems to be more single dwellings there. Look at Wembley Downs, Wembley and Gwelup too, and some larger blocks have survived in Scarborough. Don't give up hope, as rentals with pools would have been snapped up this summer as it has been so hot and humid. Looking in a couple of months' time could give you a different picture:fingerscrossed:.

If your wife is a medical secretary you can base her salary on closer to $45k than 50. Level 2 salary (public service) is $46 - 49k. If she has no WA experience she will be started as level 2.1, which is the lowest salary. And while she could potentially make more in the private sector she will be expected to work longer hours and have less benefits. I work for one of the major hospitals and have salary sacrificing, flex hours, paid study leave, and a whole shed load of other benefits she would not get private.

When/if you get here have your wife contact me. We're currently recruiting for 2 permanent positions for medical secretaries, 2 clinic clerks and 1 medical typist in our division and there's almost always work for contract/temps.
