Im sure I shall be corrected if Im wrong...but this phone isnt being sold by a mobile fone company so surely it isnt locked to a network...therefore it should be fine to go and buy it,buy an Oz sim and away you go...Im in the process of unlocking my 3 fone and Im just taking it with me...unlocking fones is dead easy nowadays especially if you have as you do access to the good old internet

Before leaving the UK our mobile phones were unlocked by a guy in our local market; he had been around for a long time and had a sign up stating that he unlocked them - cost me ten pounds. Perhaps you could find someone like that and ask them if the phone you're looking at can be unlocked and how much they will charge. Or you can follow the internet route and do it yourself - I was to busy and had little time to sort it out this way.

Good luck

I agree, I would buy it and have it unlocked in UK, loads do it for £10. Most phones can be unlocked, the only ones I think that may be dubious are the ones that are made by the network ( I think O2 have some of these).

To use your mobile 'phone in Australia it will have to be "open" , not locked into a provider, for example Orange or O2. I think it will also have to be at least tri-band. I'm not sure that anyone makes a single band phone anymore, dual band will work in Europe and the States, and tri band will work in those plus Australia and Canada or something along those lines. The new quad band 'phones will work anywhere in the world. I'm not 100% sure of the actual details but I'm positive some kind soul will post a definetive list of what is what. There is also the 3G 'phone capabilities to consider, will these 'phones work in Oz?

Pootle

you'll have to pay 10-15 quid to get this unlocked as it needs special cable and s/w.

Try your local market or local independent shop.

Not as easy as Nokias, unfortunately.

just to let everyone know the phone is in a few shops at that price now - although some still have it for £150 :scared:

we saw a nice bloke in phones 4 u - got the phone & have successfully had it unlocked (£10) - took all of about 30 seconds!!! obviously this does invalidate your warranty so just bare that in mind.

also phones are not actually locked to a supplier in oz - so it might be cheaper to wait until you get out there - unless you want an all singing all dancing one as i think those ones would be cheaper here.

hope that helps
