Sorry, another TV related question
I have searched the forum for this but get conflicting advice.
I have a Toshiba TV, about 1 year old and have been provided with the following information by Toshiba UK -
"Using the TV that you have you will be able to receive a picture in Australia, however they use a different sound system to what we use in the UK so you will not receive audio. In the UK we use Nicam sound, in Australia they use FM-FM so it will not work"
I had hoped to take this as it's a cracking TV and cost about £1,200. Is there anything I can do in Aus to get the sound to work ? I have a separate amp and surround sound system - can I use this ?!
Many thanks in advance.

Get an Australian set top box or similar.
or
Get it converted once here at a TV specialist. I can't recall prices now, but we have had the convertions done in both UK and Australia.

Plugging anything with a tv receiver into the 'AV in" port will make it work. IE: Set top box, Video recorder, "Dvd Recorder with a tv receiver", " Hard Drive Recorder with TV receiver"
I'd certainly hang on to a Toshiba, thats for sure. what is it, one of those rear projection wide screen, High def 1024x768, 100 mhtz jobs ?
I've been shopping around for ages, looking at all types of TV, from LCD, Plasma, even dlp projectors, and for value for money, you cannot beat that a large widescreen, rear projection, High def toshiba. (although projectors are catching up )

We bought a cheapy video and run the TV through it. The downside to this is that you can't video anything on a different channel to the one you're watching.

Thats a damn good point ! Unless this particular toshiba has two inputs, then get one of those foxtel iq boxes, with the foxtel subscription, and let the techs sort it out lol, they have dual tuners i think those iq boxes, because they can record 2 programs at once, and let you watch a 3rd.
To bloody expensive at present though, especially with an ongoing monthly fee. There are probably dvd recorders out there that can do the same thing. However connecting one up to Cable/sat tv, would be right on the edge of my capacity.
