Default Sorry... Another citizenship question.

I have searched and cannot find the answer.....

We obtained PR AFTER July 2007 which means we have to have live in Oz for 4 years before eligible for citizenship.

I would like to do the Australia Day ceremony 2010. I have used the calculator and will have qualified at that date.

I understand I can sit the Citizenship test before the years required have elapsed, but do I have to wait until I have completed the required years before I actually apply, or can I apply earlier but not have approval until the required time has elapsed?

Hope that makes sense.
Thanks
Neil.
