Default SORN - Does this kinda thing exist?

I was wondering if something similar to the SORN thing in the UK exists? We have a boat and a trailer, but won't be able to use either for at least the next 2 to 3 months as the OH has just had an op on his ankle which will render him immobile for quite some time. The rego on one of them is due this month, so we want to do a SORN if at all possible, as neither will be used for the foreseeable....

Thanks in advance folks

No unfortunately the same doesn't exist, if the rego runs out and you don't renew it you need to re-register, it is easier just to pay the rego even if it isn't being used.

Just noticed it's the boat due this month, on the 10th and we've received nothing for it, so our mates, the previous owners mustn't have changed the details for it. Is there any downside to having to reregister it as we're obviously going to have trouble sorting it before it's due on the 10th as we don't even have the paperwork for it?! :-/

No, our moves haven't been down to ping ponging. We have moved for opportunities at different times, now we have kids we have slowed down and our impending move back to the UK is more than likely our last. We are the south side of Brisbane.

If you get in touch with Main Roads and explain the situation it should be OK or speak to the previous owners and find out what they did at the time of the sale.

Ah ok cool. Just called Qld Transport and they've just advised that we let the boat go unregistered, then when we're due to use it again, reregister it, SORTED!

Good luck with ur move back to the UK, hope everything works out!

I think if the rego expires, yes you can re-register but part of this process is producing a roadworthy certificate.

Could be more expensive than just paying for the extra 2 months rego.

Yes that's why I said it would be easier just to pay the rego.

No roadworthy cert required for the boat, I asked, plus it goes on the water...

Ah OK, well that's easy then. Doesn't it need a waterworthy ?

Did you actually use the word 'roadworthy'?

Just the trailer will need to have a RWC carried out if the rego runs out, and that will cost approx $60, best keep the rego current on trailer
