Some interesting facts
In my bored at work state (God I wish our house would sell and we could get on with it) I found a site with some interesting and amusing facts and stats on OZ.
Homicide - Australia was founded by Convicts. It's homicide rates is 1.8 per 100,000 population. The United States was founded by religous zealots. It's homicide rate is 6.3 per 100,000. Almost 400% greater than Australia.
The ocker - 10 percent of Australians satisfy the definition of an 'ocker' . This 10 percent of the population consume 80 percent of the beer drunk in Australia.
With less than 1 percent of the world's population, Australia has more than 20 percent of its poker machines
Cannibis arrests- In 1999, 46,000 Australians were arrested for possession or use of Cannibis.
Cannibis use - It is estimated that 50% of Australians aged 14-19 are active users of Cannibis.
Cannibis industry - The sale of illegal cannibis industry constitutes 1 percent of Australia's GDP and is twice the size of the Australian wine industry.
The rest of the stuff can be found here. Sorry if its all been said before

No wonder the cafe scene is so busy...all those stoned teenagers with the munchies...
A friend and I were hitching in Queensland in the late 80s and one driver pulled a huge joint out of the glovebox (Noosa Heads homegrown is well known for quality) and shared it around while driving. We were wondering which was the safer option - a seriously stoned driver or being stuck in the cane fields overnight waiting for a lift. A few minutes in the haze in the car and we'd forgotten to worry... Dropped us off at a main road junction and it took us a while of staggering around to figure out which way up the map went...

Hee Hee....a few weeks after a stop in Nimbin we were driving down a very long straight deserted road after smoking a j. Out of nowhere the cops showed up. Not good. Both lit normal cigs hoping they wouldn't smell anything extra ordinary. They asked Hubby to get out of the car...they wanted to check the tires. Asked him if he'd been drinking to which he could truthfully answer "no". They looked at the tires and let us go. It's a good thing everyone there wears sunnies or else hubby's eyes would have given it all away!
