Some help needed with regards to diabetes, please.
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help us please. Andrew was diagnosed as a diabetic in April and has only been seen by his doctor. She is pleased that his condition is being managed by Gliclazide. Our agent asked for a medical report, which his doctor did for us. We have been told by our agent that it doesn't contain enough info and that we really need to get a specialists report. Have decided to go and see one at Bupa as NHS wait is very long as he is not classed as being an emergency. Has anyone else had to do this? What did they write in the report? Did it have any effect on you getting your visa? Any help would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

Have not had to do this but all I can say is that Diabetes controlled by gliclazide should normally be uncomplicated and that should not adversely affect your Visa application. ( I am a Pharmacist and have a keen interest in Diabetes)

Thanks for your reply. Our agent was concerned that the first letter wasn't worded very well, so hopefully paying to see a specialist will mean we get a better report.

I'd suggest that you make sure that the letter contains the words 'non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus' or 'diabetes mellitus type 2' (or both), and that it documents the lack of any complications (assuming that is true, which it probably is, given what you have said).

I work in health care management.
My son was recently diagnosed with type #1 Insulin Dependant Diabetes.
My wife and children were in the process of returning to UK anyway - as our children start prep schools.
We were asked for a medical report by the school.
I suggest your first port of call is your GP, and whoever is managing your partners diabetes, request a concise clinical medical report outlining the following :-
Date of diagnosis
Clinical results
Treatment and management path
Medications
Requesting a *report* from a private third party is adding a further link, as he/she will have to contact the GP / Initial point of service for a clinical report

Please dont worry about it too much
I am type 11 diabetic (taking metformin and gliclazide) and had to have in depth tests done by an endochrinologist. I have had various health problems over the last year or so, and this sent me into a wild panic over our application. I was granted PR just a few weeks ago, so believe me, if i can get past it ANYONE can!!!
I think you would have to be at deaths door to be refused

Hiya PP,
Glad you finally got your PR. Bupa booked for tomorrow so fingers crossed we will have a great report as we are paying, lol. The report the doctor wrote was really negative, she mentioned that Andrew wasn't taking the advice given by her about smoking. Our agent said this would cause huge probs so Andrew started on patches on Friday and I put mine on about 30 mins ago. Had a mad beer and fag filled weekend in Brighton (my friends hen party) to get over first. Glad you are well.
Hugs

Hi odaat,
The report from the doctor did give the info above but it was so negative even though he is managing his condition well. Their query was that he hadn't seen an endo what's it which is why we are paying to see one. The doctor has told us Andrew didn't need to see one but immigration say that we need to see one. Appointment booked for tomorrow.

Re: Some help needed with regards to diabetes, please.
Hi Sarah,
I'm assuming that Andrew would at some point have been seen by an endocrinology specialist at some point assuming you hadn't been doing the whole visa thing? It's just that there hasn't been time because of the relatively recent diagnosis and the length of NHS waiting lists?
If so then yes, I specialist report is a good idea and getting it done privately is the only way.
I have hypothyroidism which is also endocrine disorder. I go to regular outpatients appointments. I spoke to DIMIA this time last year to try to find out exactly what information should be provided, and I also spoke to the DIMIA doctor who was going to do my medical. Both said that in my case a letter from my GP stating the date of diagnosis, treatment, prognosis etc would be sufficient but that it should also include photocopies of all the consultant reports sent to my GP by the thyroid clinic. I also decided to chuck in copies of all my blood tests for good measure!
I never got round to having my medical or lodging my visa (my mum got sick) but I was told that this should be enough.
So a report from a specialist is doubtless necessary and should do the trick

Hiya Bundy,
How you doing hun? Nope his doctor hasn't even refered him to see an endcronolgist. When I asked why, she said she felt it wasn't necessary at this stage. Well we have seen one now and he was great. His report is going to be glowing and he doesn't forsee any complications for the future. He did however, in a most professional way query his doctors judgement on some of the medication that she has put Andrew on. He has suggested that Andrew go back and query her decision. He has told us that he can't see any reason for us to hold back on the medicals and has said we should go ahead and book them. He seemed to know a lot about Australia and their migration laws which was helpful.
Take care

Hi Sarah - that's great news and must be a big relief!
With the best will in the world, most GPs don't have all the specialist knowledge in all conditions. My GP messed me about no end with my thyroid medication (and told me I probably had a brain tumour - fantastic! I don't, of course). Much better to get a specialist's opinion. Andrew should have no qualms about going back to talk to the GP again, perhaps take a copy of the report. If that doesn't help, change GPs and find one a little more sympathetic!
Most of all I hope Andrew is feeling well in himself. My cousin is insulin-dependent diabetic. Not that you'd know it!
Best of luck with the next stage!
