Social Life

My OH and I will be moving out to Perth with our 2 children aged 7&3. I was wondering what peoples social lives are like who have young families? We wont know anyone when we arrive but are hoping to make lots of new friends.
We are still young, im 26 OH is 28,and we enjoy socialising with and without the chidren.
Replies dont have to be specific to Perth as im sure there are people all over Australia in the same boat, i was just windering what people get up to in their spare time (apart from spending time at the beautiful beaches!):D

We are also in Perth but don't have kids (we are 32 and 31) but lots of friends out here do and they seem to have a great time. Us girlies meet up about once every two to three weeks for drinks, and lots of them, and the stay-at-home Mums meet up very frequently for coffee mornings/play dates etc. You will have no trouble meeting people as everyone is so keen to meet new people. We actually have a better social life out here than we did back in the UK, especially as things are free or pretty cheap out here. At the weekends we make a real effort to go out for at least one of the days, either to the beach when it was warmer, or the wineries, aquarium, bbq at someone's house, going to house-viewings (sad I know, but until you've bought your own house then it's just like shopping but without opening your wallet and actually spending money), going for a day out in the hills, Toodjay, Dwellingup, Mandurah - there is loads to do and lots of people to do it with.

Hey

Where in Perth are you moving? We are NOR, I have really made an effort this last few months to meet more people as it is different over here to back at home as you are starting all over again, whereas back in the UK it wasnt too much of an effort, we just got together whenever and whereever kinda thing. In the summer we went to the beach and still do, but my kids love the park and we go most days. I think if you are prepared to make the effort, as it is a little daunting, there are plenty of people in the situation as yourself. The good thing about having kids, of course there are plenty, but as you will probably find, they will do lots of activities out here, as well as school and that is a good way of meeting people in similiar circumstances also. There are plenty of people arriving all the time from the UK, so I am sure you will have no problems whatsoever building up a social life. If you are heading up this way let me know and we can always get together once you get here.

Good luck and safe trip

Were thinking of heading to Secret Harbour, Hillarys, Scarborough. Not too sure yet. We are stuck between Perth & Melbourne again! We thought we had definatley decided to go to Perth but we were worried about the work situation. i have read posts on here which say there isnt much work for brickies in Perth???
Yes im hoping that having children we will meet people through schools etc, we are quite outgoing anyway so will hopefully make some good new friends.
If we do decide to head your way i will definatley keep in touch for a meet up..Thank you.
