Default So proud of our son....

I took both our kids to their weekly swimming lessons after school today and our 7 yr old has been picked for the 'Mini Squad' swimming team!!!

He started his lessons last November and couldn't swim at all. He wouldn't jump in or put his face in the water.

Over the past 9 and a 1/2 months he has gone from absolute beginner to little fish!!!

Am so proud of him, as he lacks confidence and although he's 7, he is the size of a 5 year old, so it's a real boost to his confidence.

Well done son!!! xxx

Absolutely fabulous!

It's moments like that which make life worth living. Our son who's also 7 attends our local swimming lessons here in Tayside and has done for sometime yet he still struggles. There seems to be no consistency from week to week with the way they are taught to swim. I only hope that when we get to Oz it will get better for him.

Congrats again on you boy making it.

Great to hear...and we hope he does well in his races.
Our son is a good swimmer and he is the same age...we are hoping he continues with this after our arrival in approx one months time.

Ahh, well done.

That's a big plus coming out here, the kids become great swimmers. One family we know from Glasgow have been here as long as us, their daughter couldn't swim at all and now has been selected for training for the state team.

That's when it comes home to you, your kids doing well at sport and you have the ultimate parent's fantasy and your kid is stood on the podium and you realise that they are representing Australia, not England or Scotland.

This deserves a big Ahhhhhhhhhh! Glad he's doing so well and this has given his confidence such a boost - something like this can make all the difference at that age.

Good on him. That's brilliant. Every now and then they do things that make you realise how great parenting can be - normally at about 11:30 at night

I hear ya!! Our son had swimming lessons in the Uk from age 4 - there were 12 kids in the class and one instructor!!! :scared: No wonder he never got anywhere, bless him. Here it was 2 kids per instructor and as he got better it was 4 kids per instructor.

Just for interest, it's $8.80 per lesson here (about 3.50 pounds), cost us 4.50 pounds in the uk.

Now he's in 'Mini Squad' it goes down to $8 and when / if he goes to 'squad' then its $7 per training lesson.

Renth - when the intructor said our little un had been picked for mini squad, I could here the Aussie anthem and had visions of him on the podium in his green and gold swimmers!!!

At the moment, Just this achievement for him is fantastic.

Hi,

if your son enjoys his swimming then I'm sure he'll do great here. The instructors and coaches are great, they love to see the kids doing so well and are so encouraging - whatever satge they are at.

Good luck.

Thanks Nicky, this is exactly what Dee needed at the present time - to boost him up a bit.

This is so encouraging to hear. Our 7 year old loves the water, but can't swim so it is encouraging to hear this. Actually, my niece started swimming lessons when she arrived in Melbourne aged 9 last year and my SIL has just emailed me say that she won 3 gold medals in a lifesaving carnival overtaking 3 swimmers in the relay. We are all proud of her.

Congratulations to your son, you must be very very proud. It is good to think that swimming, and sports in general, plays such an important part of life over there.
