Default So... Australia? Where to start?

Hello everyone... total newb to this stie. I current work and live in Cardiff as an IT Consultant. I'm thinking about moving to Australia as Im bored of the crappy weather in the UK. I have no idea where to start and just need some handholding with this... I'm 28, single and currently rent my appartment so I'm quite mobile.

Can I get work in Australia? How much would it cost to move there? I have no savings due to stupid lifestlye and going out too much ;-)
I think I would store my stuff here so I didnt have to transport it.

Any help much appreciated!!!

Hi

Welcome to the madhouse

The best place to start is an online assessment to see which type of visa you are eligible for.

www.immi.gov.au

Then take it from there. Once you have an idea of what you need then come back to us and we'll see what help we can give you

Hi David and welcome to the forum!

Some computing specialisations are in demand in Aus; you would find out which ones by following the link in Wendy's post, which will take you to the official Department of Immigration and Muliticultural Affairs website. All the info on the process of immigration is there if you look long and hard enough (it's a big site), and you will quickly discover that there is a variety of visas on offer to skilled people. Check out the info on the Skilled Independent 136 visa first and take the points test. If you pass and satisfy the basic criteria for this visa, then apply under this visa category as it has the least restrictions placed on it, in so much as you can live where you like in Aus and do what you like work-wise.

Failing that, there are a number of other work visas including State Sponsored, Employee sponsored and Regional Sponsorship visas to consider as alternatives.

Have you visited Aus before? Would you say that the 'pull' factors outweigh the 'push' factors?
