Snow Mountains Highway
Multimap seems to suggest that this is a dual carriageway (from the Hume Hwy down to Yarrangobilly). Does anyone know if this is true? Seems unlikely.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I've done a bit of that road - from Tumut to Kiandra. Can't recall any dual carriageway although there might have been a few bits on the straight stretches for overtaking purposes. From memory it's quite a windy road but also scenic. Mobs of kangaroos on the banks of Blowering Dam etc. It's a nice part of the country .

Thanks for that. I guessed as much.
Sometime in the new year I'm thinking of going to see the caves in Yarrangobilly.
Cheers.

Went up, around, through and over that way heading for Jyndabine and the perisher blue ski fields. That was in July for the skiing. Fantastic skiing too! Roads are very much like the winding country roads of Wales, depending on the route you take. Check the weather if in winter. Some roads are inaccessable due to snow. Some roads go through national parks and you require a permit and snow chains to be carried - A MUST HAVE IN WINTER!
Ensure you have enough fuel as garages are few. The most important thing about driving in that (and other locations) is beware of the KANGEROOS and COWS. Particularly at dawn and dusk. They graze very close to the roadside at these times of day and are fascinated by your headlights. They have no roadsense whatsoever. Enjoy. A fantastic area to see
