sneaking in on a working holiday visa
 

Hi.

Got a couple of (hopefully) quick questions about pre-qualified business sponsorship. Any thoughts much appreciated....

I am waiting to hear about my application for STNI sponsorship as a Web developer (following Alan C's suggestion). Should I get rejected I plan to pick up a working hol visa and, assuming I get some work, 'upgrade' to pre-qualified business sponsorship.

First question is, does anyone know how easy is it to do this?

Second question is, if it is arranged through a recruitment agency (like Lester's) is the arrangement between you and your actual employer or you and Lester's?

Hi,

I may be wrong, but I think one of the conditions of the WHV is that you
cannot supercede this visa with any other type of visa whilst in australia.

Check it out though. Try www.immi.gov.au.

Ya I think thats the new rules as of 1st November. See Allen C's message yesterday about immigration changes.

However I came to OZ on a WHV, then got a Temp Business Visa (457) while in OZ (didn't have to leave or anything to collect it) and and now applying for Perm Res.

So if you can get it all done by November you should be OK:eek: WHich I think will b e impossible.

Australia if you meet the requirements for another visa. Working
Holiday visa holders are able to meet the criteria for grant of a
visitor visa to enable a longer stay in Australia only if exceptional
circumstances exist. People with another type of visa cannot change to
a Working Holiday visa in Australia."

As far as I know, it depends on which country you are coming from. Some WHV
have the condition which doesn't allow you to apply for another visa and
stay on afterwards, however, my fiance's visa has no such condition, and
DIMA told me it would be fine to apply for a (spouse) visa at the end of the
WHV.

I think if the WHV was issued prior to that date, and has no condition
number printed on it, then you should be okay.

What exactly is the STNI sponsorship? I myself am a web developer with
four years experience in design and programming...

Hi Alex.

STNI (State/Territory Nominated Independent) sponsorship, as I understand it, means you can get hold of a migration visa more quickly than following the usual channels.

Basically, if one of the local Aussie governments think you've got good skills (I applied to Melbourne) they'll provide you with sponsorship. Whilst you still need to go through the rigmarole of skills assessments, medicals etc. the actual turn around time for the visa is nearer 6months than 18months...

As I see it this means you:
- can get a permanent job rather than being limited to the 3 month stints that constrain you with the WH visa.
- don't have to worry about trying to pick up business sponsorship to extend your stay beyond a year.

As for the idea of starting up a business - sounds exciting - but I have zero business acumen! Reckon I need a bit more experience yet.
