Default Snakes - the real danger!

My reasearch has been on snakes as i learnt that they pose a realistic danger in Australia, couple of my pals told me that they found snakes in their apartment...geez! thats scary

How about Adelaide? is it prone to snakes? snake attacks?

Thanks

Australia has over 140 species of land snake, and around 32 species of sea snakes which have been recorded in Australian waters. Around 100 Australian snakes are venomous, although only 12 are likely to inflict a wound that could kill you. The most dangerous snakes belong to the front-fanged group, which includes the Tiger, Brown, Death Adder, Mulga or King Brown and a few species of sea snake. Australia’s other snakes are the solid-toothed non-venomous snakes (such as pythons, blind snakes and file snakes) and venomous rear-fanged snakes (such as the brown tree snake and mangrove snakes).

The most poisonous snake in Australia is the Taipan. Out of a possible score of 25, the Taipan scores a mammoth 21. Other less poisonous snakes include, The Red Bellied Black, Black Tiger, Copperhead, Gwardar, Collett's, Fierce, Eastern Tiger, Eastern Brown, Death Adder and the Mulga.

No matter where you are you might encounter snakes - if you are in a city you are as likely to meet a snake as you would be in Manchester! If you live in the rural your chances increase. My family live just outside Sydney (they are Australians), they are in their 50s ~ they have NEVER seen a snake where they live. The only time they have seen snakes is when visiting friends in the mountains which is home to the copperhead.

The best advice we received was stamp your feet if you think it's likely a snake lives when approaching the area.. don't creep, make noise.... they're not interested in you... It's unlikely that you'd be suitable as a meal! So they'll move away and you will be quite safe!

We live on acreage and over the last 4 years have seen about 12 snakes. Non of the ones we have seen are venomous. Maybe you should look at the statistics. Snakes account for 1-2 deaths in Australia per year Source and lightning 5-10 deaths per year Source. Whatever you do, DO NOT DRIVE A CAR, 1500-2000 deaths per year.

Stop worrying.

If you stamp your feet hard enough, while walking past a vending machine, you may get a free chocolate bar!

It's not the snakes you need to worry about, it's the boomerangs. According to the survey I just made up, the number one cause of death in Australia is being knocked into traffic by stray boomerangs. Last year alone, boomerangs claimed the lives of everyone in Australia. In fact, the rest of the world didn't even find out until six months later as there was nobody alive to report it.

Yes, a bunch of snakes will get behind the vending machine and push it onto you!

It's a very real danger!
