The smallest violin in the world
All our worldly possessions have been collected ready for shipping to Brisbane. Had a few niggles about what should/shouldn’t be shipped and some things we couldn’t agree on ended up in there too mainly the golf clubs and my wedding dress; I wanted to sell it, Mart wanted to take it, and no, I’ve never caught him wearing it (yet!). Courier turned up early so frantic dash to label boxes whilst screeching at Mart on the phone to come home, pacifying a screaming baby and restraining a toddler who wanted to help. Got just under 6 weeks before we leave the UK, feels strange as the house is totally de-personalised, but if there’s anything we missed it’ll just have to be sold or thrown out. Sold a lot of our furniture to family and friends, the rest seems to be going gradually and we're hoping we'll still have something to sit on til the end. Our 2.5 yr old doesn't know whether he's coming or going, his toys got packed and he was really unhappy about that, then we packed his curtains & spare duvet set with the idea of helping him settle into his new room, but he was so upset that the curtains went back up and they'll be in the suitcase instead. The tandem pushchair sold too, he hasn’t noticed yet, so is in for another shock if he decides he doesn’t want to walk, still at least he’s spending hours enjoying playing with the toys we've borrowed.
Lots of emotions going round, our parents are telling us to go for it and although they’ll miss the boys (never mention missing us!) both wish they’d done something like it when they’d had the chance. Watching them with the boys is quite hard thinking how they won’t see the boys grow up like they would if we were staying. Then we’ve got mum’s friends telling us how cut up she is about it “although she’s never said anything”. Also weird saying goodbye to friends who we won’t get another chance to see before we go and knowing that only a small percentage will probably make a real effort to stay in touch.
Listen to the strains of the smallest violin in the world – no-one said it was going to be easy and we’re looking forward to getting out there and putting the effort in to make it work and make lots of new friends.

Might see you one day in your new life

Nice post Lane. You seem laid back I'm sure everthing will go fine. Enjoy the time you have left with your family and friends and good luck with the move.

Cheers, anyone's welcome to borrow the violin whenever they like, tho I can't guarantee that I won't need to hear it from time to time.
