Default Small jellyfish with blue tail, what is it?

Was looking in rock pools (caloundra, kings beach, sunshine coast) and noticed a group of small jelly type fish, had long blue tails, what are these?

They sting but they aren't fatal. Use vinegar to soothe the sting.

Or urinate on the sting. "Excuse me love, could you do me a favour..."

Blue bottles.. we have quite a few on the beach here and my son was stung by one on Christmas day (of all days!)...

The sting is similar to a wasp sting (in terms of hurting) and eases within the hour...

Our instructions from the Life Savers was to rinse the sting under cold water and then apply an ice pack to the sting (looks like a welt)... the pain eases as the hour goes on..

Em x

The latest medical advice is to immerse the stung body part in hot water (as hot as you can tolerate, without burning yourself obviously). It used to be ice, but now they say hot water. We have treated quite a few bluebottle stings recently and the hot water is very effective.
